When the "Laurentia" Circle was founded in 1893, the first activities were cultural: theater, study circle, savings bank followed in 1903 by gymnastics and bugles. In 1912 the Black Star appeared in the form of football and athletics. It was not until 1922 that military preparation, shooting, fencing and basketball began.
The success of football led the committee of this society, which shone in the firmament of sport in Alsace, to give it a prestigious name: "Black Star". The inauguration of the omnisport stadium on September 16, 1921 in Hoenheim, rue de la ville, with the participation of 24 companies, the presence of the prefect, the General commanding the subdivision of Strasbourg-Saverne and more than 2000 spectators, was the one of the great moments of the company which developed until 1929, when the contract with the owner was terminated.
Despite the construction of a new stadium in 1930, route de la Wantzenau, football activity could not be maintained.
Only basketball, thanks to the construction of a new court in 1928 in the garden of the Saint-Laurent foyer, was able to develop and maintain the name of the
Black Star
.
The company having been dissolved by the Nazis in 1940, it was under the banner of the Alsatia gymnastics company that the players won the championship in 1942 and won the prize of the city of Strasbourg against the SIG, after having eliminated Racing and the SSA.
But the resumption of Black-Star after the war was extremely difficult because the losses of senior players due to war were 9: Lucien Ackermann, Jean-Pierre and Theophile Blum, Charles Bitterlin, Charles Breitenbach, Paul Gradt, Roland Menheld , Jean Zimmermann as well as Charles Rosensthiel (major invalid).
Despite this tragedy, the activity quickly found new resources under the leadership of successive Presidents: Auguste Eschlimann, Marcel Obernesser, Joseph Meyer, Jean-Pierre Hager (for 38 years) and Jean-François Gsell. It was through the construction of the municipal gymnasium, rue Lamartine, and the technical evolution that this sport was in turn transformed into an indoor sport: in Bischheim since 1972.
Playing since its foundation within the AGR, the company turned a new page in 1978 by participating in the FFBB championship. For around ten years, the Black Star has also played on the floor of the Parc des Sports.
